Charlotteville CC/Surrey League Handicap Series - 28th April PDF Print E-mail
Written by Matt Legge

Our promotion on behalf of Surrey League for the first evening handicap road race of the year gave us a cold evening with the rain holding off until the event had finished. 47 riders signed on, less than in previous years but maybe because of the wintery snap. The first group quickly got working and by the end of the first lap it was down to seven riders. At half distance the lead group had split and it was apparent that the winner was going to come from the three riders in the lead. Chris Carroll took a convincing win. The second group on the road was led in by the only woman in the race Rebecca Waters easily outpacing her three male companions.  Next in was a big group sprinting for 8th and the old dog Jon Lewis surprised himself by taking second in the gallop for 9th showing experience over fitness.

The full list of results can be found on the British Cycling website.

I would like to thank the good number of volunteers and friends of the Charlotteville that made the event a success

Rascals Rabbit Run The Results - 19 Mar 2016 PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 20 March 2016 00:00

Fifty Two (52) enthusiastic young riders turned up early and faced the chilly March morning to have Rascal Racing fun at this years Rabbit Run

 2016 Rabbit Run - Cs 4Crosss

Guests, Elmbridge Eagles and Wyndy Milla Kids joined the Charlotteville Rascals to tackle the activities the Rascal Coaches had lined up for them at Goldsworth Park Recreation Ground. Each activity aiming to test riders developing cycling techniques and skills, but most of make sure they had entry level cycle racing fun.

  • Individual Time Trial
Riders do a single timed lap around the perimeter mountain bike track, with the fastest three riders collecting the medals.
  • Skills Test
Riders negotiated their way around an obstacle course with the fastest and cleanest (penalty per cone hit/obstacle failed) three riders collecting the medals.
  • Head to Head Run Off Fun
Riders are paired up and ride head to head to have some challenging fun on the Rascals ‘Left Right Hairpins’. With Each winning rider collecting a Go-Ride wrist band.
  • Four Cross for Fun
Riders are split up in to balanced teams utilising the Individual Time Trial results as the form guide for the split. Each team line up one behind the other on the start line. The first riders of each team set off together and negotiate the course. As they cross the finish the next rider of their team is released, and so on until the teams riders have raced the course. The seeding of the teams is aimed for a close team race. The first team home wins and get their photo opportunity on the podium at the presentations.

Before the results a BIG thank you to all the parents, helpers, volunteers and the coaches without whom the Rascals Racing Events would not happen and be such a great success for the budding young cyclist we have trying to emulate their heroes and heroines… Steven Burke, Laura Trott, Liam Phillips, Shanaze Reade, Liam Killeen, Annie Last, Lizzie Armitstead, Mark Cavendish…

Check out this weeks issue of Cycling Weekly for an article about the Charlotteville CC club run from the other week (n.b. this was a smaller, special Thursday club run which was faster than we might normally have on a Sunday run)

Lots of great photo's and background on the club and perfect advertising for what we do.
