Bicycle carry-cases anyone ? PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 17 January 2012 09:14

This is an open request (begging letter) for all those well-endowed (equipped) cyclists out there.  Any chance of borrowing a (hard cover) cycling case such as I could use on a plane ?  Am planning a trip to Les Pyrenees in 2012 and we fancy flying rather than the long hard slog to the sun (no, we are NOT going to ride down there either .... )

There are six of us going so if there happened to be more than one club member prepared to lend us a case we'd be extremely delighted.

We are planning to be away from the 14th July until the 22nd.

Any chance chaps ?

Wow, its been a really great year and very positive in many ways given some of the challenging recent years. Although we continue to have issues in some areas (help and volunteering, less focus on time trials) we've had some great success in other areas which have helped to give a more positive outlook.

The big event of the year for the club and certainly the most prestigious event that we have held in recent years was the running of the CTT National 50 mile time trial championships in June organised by Jim Pitt and held at a time to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Charlotteville '50'. The women's event took place on the Saturday afternoon, where the start had to be delayed due to the atrocious conditions (very heavy rain) which eventually cleared and allowed the ladies to take on the H50/8 course, Rachel Przybylski riding in Charlotteville colours making a good show for the club but it was Julia Shaw (Drag2Zero.com) who took the title with an impressive win beating all rivals by over 6 minutes. It was also nice to see a display of the Women's Team Shields that 'The Altitude Centre' are currently holders of which were originally presented to the CTT by Charlotteville CC over the years. Better weather was in evidence on the Sunday morning where Villains Jon Lewis and Richard Wareham were unable to match the speed of Michael Hutchinson (InGear-Quickvit) who retained his title. Thanks to all that supported the event (including some of our friends in local clubs) but also very well done to Jim for organising the event in such a professional manner. The rest of the Open TT's for the year were also organised by Jim, with the Open 10 taking place a lot earlier than usual (swapping with the 50 which is usually early in the year) with the event won by Nick Baldo (PBScience.com) in a time of 20:24 with eleven Charlotteville members forming part of the remainder of the field which was nice to see, fastest of which was Jon Lewis in a time of 22:47. The Open 25 was won by Tejvan Pettinger (Sri Chinmoy CT) in 50:46 and again Jon Lewis the fastest club member home in 55:30 with 6 other Villains including a PB and first sub-hour ride from Paul Batchelor.
