Rascals

The Charlotteville Rascals are Charlotteville Cycling Club’s coaching squad for junior riders aged between 6 and 16.

It is an extremely popular club and, as such, we maintain a waiting list for places in our groups. If you’re interested in a place, please contact us for more details about how to join the waiting list.

Rascals coaching take place in two locations: Goldsworth Park, Woking and Christ’s College, Guildford. We alternate between these two locations each week on Saturday mornings.

Coaching is carried out in sessions split by ability, in order to maintain the safety of the children and ensure there is an adequate ratio of coaches to children.

When your child attends please remember you will need to bring: bike, helmet, drinks, snacks, eye protection, mitts, suitable clothing and preferably a spare inner tube to coaching sessions.

Charlotteville Rascals are affiliated to British Cycling’s Go-Ride development programme for young people. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills. For those who are already involved and want to move forwards there is also the Go-Ride Racing competition programme.

Rascals groups are centred around ability, confidence & maturity. The groups form the foundation of the Charlotteville Rascals Awards Scheme. Rascals are encouraged to progress though the awards scheme with the aim that they get the most out of their cycling both socially & competitively.

The Rascals Award Scheme is designed to give capable committed Rascals a pathway to the next level in the British Cycling Performance Pyramid namely area cluster sessions & regional schools of racing.

We take the welfare of all club members very seriously, and require all members, coaches and parents to adhere to our Code fo Conduct.

The safety and wellbeing of children is of paramount importance and, to that end, we ensure that:

  • All coaches have a coaching qualification at Level 1 or Level 2.
  • All coaches hold a first aid certificate
  • All coaches hold a valid and up to date DBS certificate

However, if you have any concerns at all, please raise them to our Club Welfare Officer, Mrs. Charlie Allison. Charlie holds an enhanced DBS certificate, and has a professional background in safeguarding and working with vulnerable children.

Anyone, adults and children alike, can contact Charlie by email, here (choose the Welfare & Safeguarding option) or in urgent situations, directly by telephone on (07888) 728882.
